She obviously does NOT get it from me!

This morning B-Bop and I were studying the paintings of the French artist Henri Rousseau (we are having an Art-A-Thon because we are a little behind on our Art curriculum through K12)! She was in the midst of creating a tropical rain forest using the overlapping method taught in the lesson and she needed to create some jungle animals to go in the scene. I attempted to show her how animals are basically made out of different shapes and how you can lightly draw the shapes and then outline them and erase the shape lines to help your animal look more realistic. It took me a solid five minutes to demonstrate for her.... Ya, it's okay to laugh! Mine was far from realistic (obvious...LOL!!). What is that anyway...a giraffasoarus? She looked at me and I could tell she wasn't feeling up to using my method! She proceeded to whip this out in about 20 seconds flat!....
My flash actually washed out the color, it appears much more vibrant in person! You should see the things she can draw when she actually applies herself and takes her time. Seriously though, someone should fire her Art teacher!!!

Funny Aly. I was laughing as I read this. Kate wanted to be clued in on the joke, so I told her. She couldn't understand what was wrong with your giraff-osaurus. At least you've got one fan! :) (I'm sure it's better than I could do)

B-Bop did a great job on her bird! My son has been using a sketch book called I Can Draw by Terry Longhurst that demonstrates just what you were teaching, the shapes you use to create an image. It has helped him alot. I'll be posting his sketches soon- they are of planes though, not birds.

Hi Aly. I'm responding to your comment on history. We are in 1st grade History. Our next unit will be the Greeks but we won't get to that until after Christmas. I do a modified block schedule and will switch over to Art 1 in a few weeks after we wrap up the Ancient Empires unit. I'm guessing you must be in 2nd grade History if you have only briefly touched on the Egyptians. Curious minds want to know so drop me a note.
